Predicting and Tracking Theft Patterns
One of the clearest indications of potential theft is a discrepancy in inventory. David Adamson, our loss prevention manager was able to give us some insight into our theft tracking systems, “Using our reporting system, we can quickly identify trends that suggest something might be off. However, merchandisers play an even more important role in spotting irregularities. After each service, they provide a photo of the market to confirm it’s properly stocked. If it appears poorly filled, especially after a recent service, that is a red flag.” This proactive approach allows our team to investigate the issue before it escalates, rather than waiting for monthly inventory checks, which would involve reviewing an entire month’s worth of surveillance footage.
Our Loss Prevention Systems:
As a company we cover up to 2% theft, but if the issue persists, we alert the customer, and if necessary, take stronger measures such as returning to vending machines or discontinuing service. To help deter theft, we display clear signage reminding customers that they are on camera and must pay for their items.
Our Rhombus 360-degree dome cameras are crucial to monitoring activity. They provide live feed that we can pull at any time. In markets with higher theft rate, we even display live footage on screens to remind people they are being watched, which has proven to deter theft.
The Most Effective Theft Prevention Method: Our People
While technology is an important part of our theft prevention system, nothing beats the human element. “Our merchandisers are truly our eyes and ears in the field. They know their markets well, and when something looks or feels off, they alert the team.” Adamson said. Their attention to detail helps us detect and prevent theft early.
